With about 10" to 11" of rain in southern Laporte county in the last 2 days the Kankakee will be over its banks in the next couple days. This will make it very hard for the Kankakee game preserve to get the duck blinds covered not to mention the corn picked. The good thing is there is water where there has not been water in over 12 years. This will make it great for guys who freelance hunt. The duck clubs are going to have a hard time because there is no split season. They will be late in getting the crops picked and the farms reflooded.

There'll be more water for awhile, but I'm not sure that it'll last unless we get a lot more rain before season. Crops seem to be way ahead of schedule due to the dry (until now) year, so I'd expect more crops out for opening day than usual, even without the split. For last year's early split there were a number of clubs that had some water, and they seemed to do pretty well.
On a side note, I've been seeing many good flocks of mallards and woodies at the Kank. Don't know what the official counts are, but I've seen in excess of 250 birds a night, flying. That's just at one end of the property. I'd guess that my total is between one third and one tenth of the total, although I have absolutely no way of confirming this. Those numbers encourage me as many, if not all, of the ducks around now were locally raised.

OZPA. Is the intersection of 8 & 39 flooded yet or can you get through? I have got to go to Indy on thursday and I want to take 39 south.

All we got in SW Indiana was wind - LOTS of wind.
Sustained winds of 35 to 40 MPH with gusts to 60.
Trees and powerlines down everywhere.
We lost power for 24 hours.
Just got back from help a fellow church member cut trees in his back yard and going back this afternoon to cut up a tree that fell in Woodmaster's backyard. He is on vacation in the Smokies.
Lucky him..

Featherduster,
39 North of 8 was closed yesterday, 8 east and west, and 39 south of the intersection were all open. Best bet is 35 south to Logansport, then 29 south until it becomes 421.

THe Kank is at the top of its banks over this way.. I went out to Kingsbury tonight to take a look.. It always weird to see the river flowing higher than the surrounding land...
