Today while driving a ZTR lawn mower to our property, a ruffed grouse flushed and flew across the road right in front of me. This is only the 3rd I have ever seen in my life. There is an area across the street that was clear cut about 5 years ago and its really thick now. Could this hold a huntable population for one hunter? This is somewhat promising...

Very likely could hold birds down there. Listen for them drumming.

The neighbor said that they were thick down there years ago.

Then assume they are still there and go chase 'em. keep an eye out for woodcock also.
