Last night a good friend of mine stopped by. We don't usually talk politics for good reason. Last night was different and the presidential election came up. When "the bridge to nowhere" came up, I mentioned how much taxpayer's money Palin saved us. Now, listen up as this is where things get rich! My friend informed me that the 50 or so residents of the island that the bridge was to go to were actually given quarter million dollar ($250,000) boats to get around with since Palin "vetoed" the bridge!!!!! This is the HONEST TRUTH!!! I laughed out loud of course, imagining he had to be joking ;D......he wasn't . After some uncomfortable minutes, the subject was changed to my relief. I can't say where he came up with his misinformation, but to him, it was GOSPEL true. I have found over the years how rabid and unsteady a lot of Democratic supporters are and realize, when they are this way, one can NOT argue with them. Sad but true folks....this really took place last night and I have seen it before. What else can I tell ya?

I have a good friend like that. When the Stock market reached record highs a few years back, said whenever the subject of the economy came up: "The economy is the lowest it's ever been!" ( forget the Great Depression) He is convinced that Republicans are responsible for gun control schemes. When I would point out that nearly all gun control proposals come from Democrats, He'd say "I saw that James Brady on TV! He was with Reagan!" The guy is fond of guns, isn't a fan of gays, believes in traditional values, loves to hunt, etc. Yet he consistently votes for people that oppose his way of life, and poo-poo's any suggestion that Democrats are behind anything that he doesn't like.

I have a friend like that as well. I suspect we all do. My friend calls himself a "conservative democrat". I always ask him, "why not become a republican?". His reply, "because they're out of touch, and won't protect my job." My response, "N-A-F-T-A!"
Rookie, you Dad's advise has just become my new mantra!

www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-08-31-palin-bridge_N.htm""I told Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that bridge to nowhere," Palin said Friday in Ohio, using the critics' dismissive name of the project. "'If our state wanted a bridge,' I said, 'we'd build it ourselves.'" While running for governor in 2006, though, Palin backed federal funding for the infamous bridge, which McCain helped make a symbol of pork barrel excess. "The bridge to no where was already shot throught the lungs and on the ground gasping when she walked up and "put her tag" on it. voices.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/09/politifact_mccain_exaggerates.html"Congress removed the language specifically directing the money to the bridge, but it kept the money in place and left it up to Alaska to decide which transportation projects the state would like to spend it on.
By the time Palin pulled the plug on the Gravina bridge project in September 2007, much of the federal funding for the bridge had already been diverted to other transportation projects. "Fact is the bridge was over and all she did is sign the death certificate and then spend the money. Not a dime of your federal tax dollars were saved or returned. She spent every penny and still didn't build a bridge.

Most of my friends are liberal, and we talk politics occasionally with no problems. I embrace diversity, including diversity of thought, unlike those liberals which only embrace superficial diversity and look down on any truly meaningful differences between people.

IHis reply, "because they're out of touch, and won't protect my job." That's all that I hear over here in Ill-annoy anymore. Everything is about being a liberal because they will protect your job blah blah blah. This is the most pro Union/Liberal place I've ever seen in my life. The majority of this comes from a guy who bought a cell phone with a TV in it to watch while at work. Why not work hard? Then you wont need someone to protect your job right?

Work hard? Not look for a government promise of a job no matter how lazy you are? That's crazy talk right there!!! What we need is liberals to tax those rich people that create jobs EVEN MORE and give their money to us, so they don't have capital to build factories or start new businesses or drive innovation...... That way we can live unmarried in government housing popping out kids by the score so we can get food stamps and all kinds of free stuff....and with no jobs to take up our time we can focus on deer season!!!!
