Why didn't you just quote that directly from the Obama site instead of "politico"? Ben Smith did not say that. It was the Obama statement was it not?
"...........but Barack Obama will continue talking about his plan to jumpstart our economy by giving working families $1,000 of immediate relief."
Obama plans on getting the money for this vote buying scheme from the "windfalls profit tax on oil companies".
Of course that will just drive gasoline prices higher. That along with the Democrat congress's proposal of a 50 cent hike on gas taxes will run thorugh that $1,000 that Obama is "giving us" pretty darn fast.
I truly can not believe that anyone would buy into this socialist way of governing.

He'll promise sun and 72 to the Eskimos if he thinks they are stupid enough to believe him..... Promise the sun? How about just promising $1,000? Vote for me and I'll give you $1,000!! Obama has promised a $1,000 energy rebate for American families using money from a “windfall profits” tax on oil companies. We will pay it back of course in higher gasoline prices. Dems just don't seem to understand that it is the consumer that is the ultimate payer of ANY tax that the government imposes on anyone or company.

Of course you're correct Woody. I think the Dem's understand just fine, it's the voters that don't get it.

Near as I can figure, (using the U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. News and World Report profit data) the $1000 per household "rebate" would amount to roughly 3/4 annual profit of the U.S oil companies, cutting their profit margin to around 3%. What private enterprise will bother to stay in business with a 3% profit margin?
If you believe this "windfall profit tax" is a good idea, than stop complaining about U.S. businesses moving overseas because high taxes are a major reason for it, it ain't just because of the cheaper labor. The U.S. already has the second highest corporate tax rate among industrialized nations of the world. Taxing American companies out of existence does nothing towards getting gas prices under control in this country, now does it?
This is probably the goofiest proposal Obama has thought up.......... to date, that is. I'm sure there'll be more to come.

Well, our decisions are grounded in reality, and not meant to better our political standing! I'm sure it's probably safe to say that most of us know far more than most politicians when it comes to real life.

Yeah, what a goof! I'm sure you all know more than he and his advisers do. Thats why your all running for president of the united states??? OBAMA'S ACCIDENTAL CANDIDACY..From: www.college.columbia.edu/cct_archive/jan05/cover.phpI don't think Obama was lying in 2005. I've think that he didn't expect his campaign to take off the way it did. I think he figured he'd run a good attention-getting primary campaign, drop out after South Carolina, and set himself up for the future. I think that the coalescence of the anti-Hillary Democrats around his campaign surprised him as much as it did Hillary, and that he's been running a improvisational campaign ever since. Hopefully enough of the American voting public will see that this guy is WAY-Y-Y-Y-Y-Y short on any expereince and will lead us down the path to socialism. He is a political rock star.

I'm sure it's probably safe to say that most of us know far more than most politicians when it comes to real life. There's a whole lot of truth in that. I remember seeing coverage of Hillary during the primaries. She appeared at a car show somewhere and after sitting in a show model and appearing confused with the dashboard controls, admitted she hadn't driven a car in over 15 years.
