Has anyone ever used a Thermacell unit when bow hunting? If so, are they effective? Is it odor free?

IMO they do have an odor .... but it doesnt seem to effect the deer at all.
That said ..... they work awesome. I wouldnt go without one in early bow season ever again.

We have one for sitting on our back deck in the early morning while sipping coffee, reading the paper and letting the cats have a little exercise.. We could not sit out back if it were not for the ThermaCell. Ever now and then I get a whiff of it. Whether that smell would sppok a deer or not? Dunno. I have seen a lot of compliments on the skeeter chasing ability of these and have never seen a complaint about the smell scaring deer off.

I know for a fact that deer, even when upwind, definitely notice when I am flailing my arms violently swatting skeeters ....... if the smell might spook a deer I still wont go without it.

Everyone has their own beliefs. IMO deer are alarmed by B.O. and may be drawn to curiosity of other smells.

I have one and used it in Florida where skeeters will suck you dry in an hour. It doesn't bother hogs or deer and keeps the skeeters and other annoying pests away. h.h.h

I haven't had the need to use one during deer season but duuring turkey season I have found nothing even close to being as effective.
I feel like there is a definate oder when I sit next to it on the ground.

I use one when fishing and don't seem to smell anything. I do like them and just use them whenever fishing at night.

I will not bowhunt early or turkey hunt without it. I do notice an oder every now and again, but the deer have never seemed to pay any attention to it. One of the best things to come along in a while.

Several years ago, I saw an ad in a hunting magazine. Thermacell was going to begin offering a fresh earth scent repellant wafer. I never followed thru on that and checked.

When the little pad starts turning white you just change pads. Refills aren't cheap....

My friend in Florida who uses them weekly tells me the pads last for two sessions of 2-3 hours each time, then they quit working. h.h.
