I put my trail cams out three weeks ago for the first time since the bucks lost their antlers in the spring and I was pleasantly suprised to see one probable shooter and one definite shooter show up when I checked them last weekend. Buck #1 Some video evidence that bucks do indeed use "licking branches" all year, not just when making/tending scrapes. All of the other bucks caught on my cam that appearred older than 2.5 also worked the same limbs as this buck. Buck #2

Very nice. That cuddeback takes a great picture. Looks like something spooked the big guy in the last video. Does the camera make sound? Maybe something we cant hear?

I've never noticed any noise associated with the camera, it does have a small red light that flashes when it takes a picture though. This picture was taken within a day or two of the camera being placed so if I had to guess I would say that the buck was either spooked by latent scent or because the camera was new addition to the area and he recognized it as being out of place.

Great pics! I've seen deer using licking branches at all times of the year. I've read that it is just another way they communicate to each other who is in the area. I didn't realize just how nice that last buck was until I watched the video. He's gonna be great!

Yes, I had always heard that bucks used licking branches year round and had seen my proof of it previously but I had never seen it so well demonstrated as with this buck and the others that used it also. I realized that the second buck was pretty nice in the photo but after watching the video the first time the only thing I could think was "Holy crap!" and that was early in June yet. I have not gotten pictures any additional pictures of either of those bucks since the first ones so I have pulled the cameras from those two areas to let them rest for a month or two.
