Text for the Day -- Hosea 9:1, 10:1-4 ---------- Do not rejoice, O Israel! Do not exult as other nations do; for you have played the , departing from your God. You have loved a prostitute’s pay on all threshing-floors. Israel is a luxuriant vine that yields its fruit. The more his fruit increased the more altars he built; as his country improved, he improved his pillars. Their heart is false; now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will break down their altars, and destroy their pillars. For now they will say: ‘We have no king, for we do not fear the LORD, and a king—what could he do for us?’ They utter mere words; with empty oaths they make covenants; so litigation springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field. Devotional ---------- Hosea uses the imagery of prostitution and marriage to talk about Israel's failure to be faithful to God. God took Israel for a bride but she went after other gods and alliances for protection. For that reason God would bring judgment on Israel. They will suffer for their idolatry and lack of justice and righteousness in their dealings with each other. Prayer ----------- May I always remember my commitment to you, O Lord. Amen
