Just wondering if anyone uses the Moon position/phases to plan hunt activities such as what days and what time you hunt?
I hunt anytime I can, but I have been tracking moon & weather data for a couple years now looking for a trend.

No on the moon. I focus on weather fronts & tempratures for stand location & clothing required.

Well call me some type of galaxy hunter. I have been keeping up with moon phases since 1992 with deer observations and movements. Now I am like the alot of you all I hunt when every I get the chance, but I stay aware of the current moon phases for the day. So I don't just hunt moon phases.
My observations and harvests show me that the majority of the time most of my observation and harvests are with in the major moon phrases. This rate is close to 90%. I have hunted some of the crappiest weather conditions a hunter could think of from extreme heat, storms, and windy days. But most of the movements are during major moon phrases.
Now I look for weather fronts and changes in barometic pressure as well. Give me a major cold front arriving during a major moon phrase and that pretty much garuantees me a deer to tag.
What is nice now is with all of that data and observations is now if I can only a part of a day I use moon phrases to decide what part of the day I am planning on hunting.

![:-[](http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/images/smilies/new1226/cheers.gif) I tried the moon phase/transit stuff for about three seasons some 5-6 years back, and found that weather fronts/wind/temps/food source type were much more dominant factors. Wooters did an article a year or so back wherein he analyzed 20 years of journal entries he had made and his theory was related to whether there was a dark night (no moon) prior to the morning hunt. Will see if I can find that article again and post the findings... ;D At this point, I feel like moon phase/Peterson's tables are like the daily newspaper horoscope... I sometimes read it for entertainment value, but I don't base my hunting life on'em.... KD

Just checked out the huntingstats site that was being displayed in the ad banner above...
According to their high-tech "deer movement by state" software, the best time for me to hunt in Indiana tomorrow (Sunday, October 9) is either 7am-10am or 4pm-7pm...
Now, that is AWESOME TECHNOLOGY... who would have thought that deer actually were more probably moving during mornings and evenings.... the mind boggles....
Wonder what time it will be next weekend.... :-)

I feel everything is about the same there is no garanutees when it comes to hunting. Just like scents, scent blocking suits, deer calls, moon phases, weather fronts, and such. Each one of these might give you a edge but still no garanutees.
Myself I prefer the major moon phrases and my data colection of observation over 20 years shows there is a relation between deer movements and moon location. Still no garanutees, but I do like the odds. What determines deer movements and feeding times when there is no change in the weather? I found it funny that during the major moon phrase times that happen in the middle of the day I see deer out moving about during these times during the heat of summer. This is when it is the hottest time of the day, why?
Remember deer hunting is just like a raffle drawing. One ticket can win but the more tickets you do have in the cage just increases your odds.
