Any pig experts out there? This little fella had to be ran out of my father in law's garden (near Poland, IN) a few times Saturday afternoon. Is this just a farm pig that got lost or is it a feral? Is there even any way to tell? It wasn't very big, maybe 50/60 lbs. I wish I would've been there, we'd be having fresh BBQ today! ;D

It doesn't take long for a domesticated pig to turn feral- 2 weeks is what I've heard.
I'd say it's an escapee, and it's probably only been out a few weeks, judging by the hair behind the head and on the shoulders.
But, like Woody said, ham is ham. ;D

That's what is called a "griller"-just big enough to fit on one of the standard barrel/smoker grills. Talk about good eating!! I'd say if you can't find an owner real quick then by all means it should become a good family weekend meal! Dan's right-it doesn't take too long for them to become a wild pest. They are not native so there is no license required and I'm sure the DNR would like them removed. At that range a 22mag just behind the ear will do the job very well and you don't lose as much meat either.

most ferel pigs are black but some are red, grey and white spotted. most of the time when you see one they will be more around. I suspect this one was an escapee from some ones farm. h.h.

I used to sell Potbelly Pigs back in the early 90's and that sure looks like one but it could also be a farm pig. If you don't get it the Coyotes will. I'd grab it and raise it for $$$$.
