Squirrelhunter, I agree with you on that. I still think it is totally crazy to have weapon license instead of deer license. Imagine the ease of going to wal mart and just telling the clerk you want a bonus tag or a buck tag. No watching them to make sure the 17 yr. old fills it out correctly. K.I.S.S.
I guess the new computer POS might have eliminated those concerns. I don't know.
JB so if one of your goals is to reduce the does, don't you think the license structure would allow a guy to buy more doe tags from the get go? If this thread wasn't started by Camby would you have agreed with it? I know some of you guys will not allow the other the gratification of saying that is a good idea. I think a few of us have clouded vision based on personal feelings.

One point at a time.......lol.
Woody said:
By the IDNR data the OBR has kept a rather large group from purchasing a second tag. That group is getting bigger as the yearly harvest of bucks is rising.
now how can that be? Indiana data shows a 31% decline in license purchase. Be careful Woody, you go to the lifetime license sales and landowner permits and you loose your arguement..........lol.
"The OBR has caused loss of opportunities for hunters and revenues generated by license sales, gasoline, motels, hunting goods, grocery items, resturants, etc, etc, etc.."
Only for the minority that are buck hunters only, so what you are saying is 24.00 is not too much for abuck tag but is too much for a doe tag? So you wish to commercialize antlers......lol.
"Just in an attempt to grow some trophies, when we already had them ."
And since we have exceeded 500 entries in the HRB and A record number of entries in B&C we have succeeded in growing even more trophies.......lol.
Camby:
Nothing worth quoting from you........... as I have said I'll just set back and smile!
Rick Lyon:
When the small special interest groups want to commercialize deer hunting for everyone!
Would you care to elaborate on how the OBR "commercialized" hunting in Indiana? It did nothing to hunting deer in Indiana, leasing was already here and growing. Just another attempt to cause fear....
BTW, just a FYI: Indianas Whitetail season is only 88 days long, not 95 as was stated in a previous post.
October has 31 days, November 30 days, December 31 days and this year January has 8 deer hunting days 31+30+31+8=100. Now subtract the 5 days between gun season and muzzleloader and what number do you come up with? 95 days!
Please don't say January is a 2006 season, what license is valid?.............LOL
Now our buck tags are too expensive.......... that is if it is for only "one buck" it would be OK if we got 2? 3? 4?................... LMAO.
Who wants to commercialize? Sell them antlers boys!

my first responce would be NO!! they shouldnt sell a buck only tag... just for the reason of being a archery hunter i want my choice of what i am going to harvest!! unless they drop the price of the current tags.with fram land dissapearing hunting land is getting harder to come by and a lot of guys go with out filling there tag no figure you have to get 2 tags just to cover all bases and still go with out filling one no you are down $50 for tags but if you are luckie and fill one now you have processing fees wich range from $60 to $100 depending on what cuts you get . call me cheap if ya want but just knowing that michigan hunters get there tags dirt cheap and we get reamed on the price of our tags since the price hick a few years ago i stopped buying doe permits!! if they want more does taken out then they better make it look appealing to us! JUST MY 2 CENTS !!!!

I hunt hard for antlers. I dont get one every year but I hunt them hard. If I were hunting for meat, the DNR would only have to give me about a weekend hunting season. Not to hard to shoot a doe for the freezer/meat. That wouldnt gain the state to much would it LOL. Of course if I were to harvest some antlers early in the season, the state isnt going to get very much out of me anyway, as well, because I cant continue to hunt even harder for the second one they could lose money off of me anyway.

Hmmmm..... I don't think it's all that UNCOMMON for antlerless tags to be cheaper than buck tags. Heck, some states allow the hunter to harvest free antlerless deer, when they purchase their buck tag. Has the "hunting heritage" been destroyed in those states? IDHMC, Based on some of the posts made on this and other sites during the past week, antlerless deer were pretty tough to find last weekend. Not very many success stories so far.

JB, I never said anything about the OBR in my post. Nor did I reference anything about buck tags being too expensive. Where do you get this stuff from? AND according to the hunting regs, deer season ends on JAN. 1 2006, not the 8th. PAGE 4 on the link below: www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/huntguide1/HATG_0506/HATG0506_1-20.pdf

JB -" now how can that be? Indiana data shows a 31% decline in license purchase. Be careful Woody, you go to the lifetime license sales and landowner permits and you loose your arguement..........lol."
WW - please re-read what I typed. I said, "That group is getting bigger as the yearly harvest of bucks is rising.'
In 2002 there were 47,177 buck taken. in 2003 there were 4,533 taken. In 2004 there were 54,768. So that group of successful buck hunters is "getting bigger". if Indiana does indeed have only 180,000 deer hunters (and shrinking) that means over 30 percent have tagged out on bucks and CAN NOT BUY ANOTHER BUCK TAG.
You're a salesperson, Joe. Would you like to cut out 30% of your potential customer base? . WW1 -'"The OBR has caused loss of opportunities for hunters and revenues generated by license sales, gasoline, motels, hunting goods, grocery items, resturants, etc, etc, etc"
JB -"Only for the minority that are buck hunters only, so what you are saying is 24.00 is not too much for abuck tag but is too much for a doe tag? So you wish to commercialize antlers......lol."
WW - 30%? Isn't that number to be reckoned with?
WW1 -"Just in an attempt to grow some trophies, when we already had them "
JB -"And since we have exceeded 500 entries in the HRB and A record number of entries in B&C we have succeeded in growing even more trophies.......lol."
WW - Trend , Joe ... trend...
JB -"Who wants to commercialize? Sell them antlers boys!"
WW - Isn't that what you are doing with your attempt to grow trophy deer? You know, the ones that you just bragged on with record book entries.
A blast from the past concerning record books-
WW - If we are truly honoring the animal why do we list the hunter's names? Why could we not just list the score, where and when the animal was killed?
JB - "We coudn't sell any reord books then.. lol.."
