Text for the Day -- John 17:1-5 ---------- After Jesus had spoken these words, he looked up to heaven and said, ‘Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do. So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.
Devotional ---------- Jesus' high priestly prayer in John 17 focuses on the relationship of unity of with the Father, and the unity of the church with the Trinity and each other. Unity is a sign that the reconciling work God gave Jesus to do is being fulfilled. As long as there are barriers between you and God, or you and others, Christ's reconciling work is not finished in you. Jesus prayed then and is interceding now so that you will be one with God and others in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer --------------- Gracious God, continue to lead me in the path of reconciliation that I may know your peace. Amen
