It seems to me that we are doing better on here as a whole so far. Better gobbling, more kills. Maybe it's a bit early for this pole. What do you guys/gals think? Record year in the making?

Seems like there are more turkeys being killed so far this year, but who knows how the rest of the season will go. Hopefully I can kill one this weekend.

At least this year you can get the talking after flydown. Last year it seemed that the second they hit the ground, they henned up and refused to gobble again.

There are more turkeys in my woods this year. Couldn't believe how many gobbles I heard opening day within a 1/2 mile of each other. Didn't see any jakes the last 2 years also and have seen 3 this year.

I harvested a bird this season and not last but the number of birds we hunted and the gobbeling patterns seemed about the same to me.

The place I hunt only had 3 turkey killed last year, opening day this year there were 6 killed and more Sat & Sun. We are limited to noon and Fri-Sun only. It is definately up here, I didn't hunt last year but it seems the weather hurt the guys here last year.

I think the turkey population is definately up, it may be time to start taking two birds in the next few years. What do you guys think?

I think the numbers will be down. Several guys here in Perry County haven't even herd a bird since season opened. The season needs to open about a week and a half earlier in the south part of the state.

I think the number of turkeys is about the same I just think they are responding better this year, due to better weather patterns. JMO

I think kill numbers will be down, but it could get better in this last week. I couldn't get any birds to move on opening day or Thursday, but had 5 or 6 birds gobbling around me. On Friday, May 2, I had 2 jakes come in, then 2 longbeards with 2 hens. ( stayed out about 60 yards) I moved twice in the same field and called about every 15 minutes. was getting ready to go, 10 more minutes and I'm gone when I see a movement. I got my turkey at 35 yards he's not posted on the kill thread yet waiting on my son to help with the picture.

Tihs years contest is up to 25 birds now..
Of course not everyone is in the contest and a few in the contest have multiple birds from out of state.
It ain't over .... till it's over.

With consistant harvest numbers the last several years and low poult/hen ratio's at least the last two, I don't think statewide numbers are up.
All those extra birds you are hearing this year were there last year.

Both seasons were really tough where I hunt in Parke County. The checking station as of last Friday had 50 birds compared to 84 for last year. Thats a pretty huge drop even if they checked in another 10 or so birds this past weekend which I doubt happened.
