I learned that no matter how much noise I make getting to my stand and no matter how much I use my flashlight because I'm lost in the dark ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) , to stay calm and don't sweat it, the deer will still come if you do everything else correctly. Popped a doe at 6:45 am Sat. after she wandered around my stand for 10 minutes. The same place I wandered around in the dark looking for my stand! Gotta love the scent cover up, don't leave home without it. ;D

TS glad you got to hunt with your grandson. It doesn't get any better than that.

1. I learned that Woody has his own website now and I am darn glad of it.
2. I learned that there are a ton of young bucks on the farm where I hunt and at least two old "shooters".
3. I learned that the acorns are dropping like crazy in the early mornings, and that is exactly where I needed to be to have all sorts of encounters and shot opportunities.
4. I learned that it is getting easier and easier for me to pass on immature bucks without a second thought.
5. I learned that it sure doesn't take a deer herd long to figure out that someone is now hunting them.
6. I learned that this coming weekend is going to have very cool temperatures and that I am not going to be able to hunt, and that makes me sick!

Well.. I did NOT get the opportunity to hunt the opening weekend due to fishing a CLASSIC bass tournament in Tennessee ![:-[](http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/images/smilies/new1226/cheers.gif) BUT.. I managed to sneak in an afternoon and evening hunt on Tuesday. The temperature was 85 degrees when I left the truck so I was not really expecting too much activity. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the wooods and noticed movement on the SAME trail about 50 yards in front of me.. It turned out to be a "basket rack" 6 pointer and he NEVER knew I was there. After he crossed the ditch, he walked directly past one of my tree stands. As I got closer, I noticed movement on the side of the ridge directly behind my stand. It was a small doe feeding away from me. I got to my selected stand and after settling in, I had two does come out of the creekbottom swamp to my left. One was a yearling and the other was a NICE BIG doe. At one time, they were BOTH within 15 yards of my location and I considered taking the big doe. Less than an hour later, I noticed a grey form moving across the ridge in front of me. It was a coyote.. I figured things would be getting interesting but it turned and headed back. I saw another doe about 5:30PM that was just walking around browsing on acorns. For the first time out and with the temperature as warm as it was... I was happy to have seen 5 total deer, one was a "rack buck" and the coyote. Since I have a speaking engagement for a church Saturday morning, I will be in the stand Saturday afternoon hoping the cold front makes things better. The cooler the weather... the more activity I observe... GOOD HUNTING FRIENDS.. Bud Fields
