Personally I would like the DNR to mandate a point rule (first buck as today, second buck must carry more than 4 points on one side), and an earn a buck program (must harvest a doe before second tag is given). At least in my neck of the woods, the buck to doe ratio is out of wack. The earn a buck would help that, I think. Scott. That is probably a good idea that would partially satisfy a good number of people. Michigan has the second buck as antler restricted. Not sure about the EAB program. Tough to police..

Well check out the Big Oaks "earn a buck" program, it is fairly easy to police. dead doe means you get a buck license in that same name for weapon of choice.
Big Oaks(Jefferson proving Grounds) is offering it to all hunters this year.
Woody, I'll not comment on crossbow, I'll just set back smile and watch.

From what I read about Big Oaks, they have a one buck limit FOR EACH WEAPON. If the hunter harvests a doe, they can get an EXTRA buck tag, bumping their buck bag limit to TWO BUCKS PER WEAPON. www.fws.gov/midwest/BigOaks/deer.htmGeneral Deer Hunt Information You can participate in multiple state-drawn hunts if chosen as a partner in addition to being selected in a drawing. There is no limit on how many times you can participate as a partner or participate in local drawings. If you are chosen as a partner by more than one person, you can use the partner license request certificate from each selected hunter to obtain multiple licenses. You may not exceed the daily bag limit on Big Oaks NWR of 2 deer. You will initially be issued 1 military/refuge license request certificate per hunt (1 or 2-day hunt). Hunters who harvest and check-in antlerless deer will receive additional license request certificates for each antlerless deer harvested. Purchase and use of this additional military/refuge license would be valid for a deer of either sex. There will be a limit of 2 bucks/hunter with the harvest and check-in of an antlerless deer for each type of hunt (2 for archery and 2 for gun). Without the check-in of an antlerless deer, the limit is 1 buck/hunter with all archery licenses and 1 buck/hunter with all firearms licenses. The number of antlerless deer is only limited by the daily bag limit and the hunter's availability of licenses. If you were selected for an archery hunt you have the option of purchasing a military/refuge archery license. Archers can take deer of either sex using 1 or 2 of the following licenses: regular archery, extra archery, and/or one military/refuge archery license. See bold above for buck bag limits. If you were selected for a firearm hunt you have the option of purchasing a military/refuge firearm license. You may use a firearm license, a military/refuge firearm license or both to take deer of either sex on the special hunt area. See bold above for buck bag limits

No doubt it is much easier to control an EAB program , or any program for that matter, in a controlled atmosphere like Big Oaks. Statewide? I have my doubts. Now, sayng that I also know that 95% of our game laws are on the personal honor system. Unfortunately some do not have any honor..

Sorry Kevin:
I made the call to Big Oaks, a military tag is issued for an additional either sex deer after a doe is taken, weapon does not matter. If you are drawn for an archery hunt and a gun hunt, you kill a doe on the archery hunt, you get and additional either sex tag. You return on a gun hunt, you can use that tag for 2 bucks. T^hey work for "standby" hunters and "public" draw hunts.
And I'm not advocating ANYTHING!! I replied..............
Nice try Kevin.......

Woody,
If you check out the big oaks deal it is actually a "Earn a Second Buck"......everyone gets one buck with each weapon they hunt with in there.

What do we have??? A FEDERAL AGENCY supporting QUALITY DEER MNAGEMENT.
and the doe harvest is a "pay to play".
Did you notice Kevin it does not say "antlerless"? It stipulates a "doe"

OK....if you say it's QDM.....then I guess it's QDM.
QDM= 1 (unrestricted) Buck allowed for each type of weapon hunted with, if you harvest **antlerless deer**....QDM says you can harvest additional (unrestricted) Buck deer..................A FEDERAL AGENCY supporting QUALITY DEER MNAGEMENT.
Glad we got that straightened out.

The *correct* information is they are in fact issuing "extra" buck tags in exchange for a "antlerless" (fawn, button or doe) harvest.
