Any bowfishermen out there?
I'm looking to get started. Thinking about buying a PSE Kingfisher bowfishing recurve package in the 50# model.
Any revues, suggesstions or invites to go bowfishing would be appreciated.

I've had a request to add a "bowfishing" forum here.
Not sure how much traffic it would get, but I'll talk it over with the mods about putting it here as a sub-forum..

I'm a long time bowfisherman and my best advice is to simply go for it. You will probably have a lot of fun. My second best advice would be to spend a little extra money and buy an AMS retriever reel, it will make bowfishing easier and more enjoyable.

Any old compound will do, but the best advice is for the AMS reel. Man those things are slick!

Recurve 45-50#, AMS, stingeree tipped fiberglass arrows
Aim low, deeper the fish the lower you will want to aim. I shot bufalo, gar, carp and big head carp out of the Wabash last year just walking the bank, but a nice clear lake in early spring is the time for BIG carp & buffalo.

Hey Woody, sorry for responding so late...looks like we got a response:) I'm really glad to see that there are some folks that like or are interested in the sport of bowfishing. A quick history of my background in the sport...started in the mid-90's and have done wading, bank shooting, from a bass boat, off old railroad trussels, elevated boat platforms, john boats, off bluffs under multiple water conditions in 7 different states. Variable equipment trials on numerous fish species have taught me what works well and what does not. When you put together a rig for chasin' fish you need to thing durability and strength. No matter the style you choose to pursue or the fish,to an extent, these two factors can be the difference in a fish landed or a "the one that got away". My gear for the last ten years consists of this, and this set-up has NEVER failed me- Martin Scepter II 60#@27" w/ Fury cams-the reason for this bow is it has a grooved shelf that i can shoot off of....try and stay away from rest and use putty build-up like j.b. weld to fab a rest.Remember you will be subjecting this equipment to the harshest conditions,it will take a beating. AMS Retriever Reels are the only way to fly.The reel types are better on a pole!Yep they are cheaper than a bottle but when you're out on the water and into fish and the cap pops off or the reel seizes up you'll know that the extra $$$ was well spent. I still have my original unit and once a year it gets returned to ams and they replace all worn parts for 20.00! BCY Fast Flight Line-I shoot the 350# line with around 100' in my bottle.Once again money well spent at the end of the day. I will say that the other lines out there are equal here and if starting out the line provided in the ams unit will work good. Arrows- White fiberglass with Muzzy heads. Now if you try and cut corners to save some dollars DO NOT do that here. The white classic shafts tipped with either muzzy carp or muzzy gar tips are the best choice. Safety Slides for the arrows are the best for string attachment.DO NOT TIE THE LINE TO THE HOLE IN THE BACK OF THE ARROW UNLESS YOU WANT TO DIE!Arrow snap back can, does and will eventually happen if you tie off on the end of the arrow.Use the slide,it works great and it's safe. 2 pc. quivers work well for carrying arrows and the 3-d hip quivers also work well. Shooting with fingers is what works the best, using a glove, the no-glove works well.Remember the shots come quick and you should be able to come up quicker and more instinctively with your fingers. Polarized glasses are a must in most daylight situations and they help you see past the glare and see more fish. That's quite a chunk of info, the main thing is to keep it simple, dependable, safe and fun.If you have anyquestions please ask and i will get back with you.

This is how I got started bowhunting. If you ever get carp near Patoka lake (It's full of carp) the Visitors Center will take them for Eagle food.

Thanks for the details cornbread. Do you know anything about the PSE Kingfisher bow. I can get a good deal on the 50# model. Is there any good pro shops around that can help with setting up a bow fishing rig properly?

Get the stuff and swing by my place and I will help you set it all up, and if the timing is right we can walk down to the river and maybe plunk a few carp!

That is nice to know, now I have something to do with the carp other than give them to my neighbor.
