I have a question about a Turkey mount.
I killed a 24 + pound with double beards long curved spurs this past Spring in Missouri. I wasn't anywhere to put the bird in a cooler but kept it with ice in the body cavity and he was hung by his feet. The ice filled his head like a baloon and I think ruined it. I also killed another double bearded Turkey from MO but a much smaller bird and small spurs. Can you take the double beards and legs from the big bird and replace the ones on the smaller bird but use the smaller birds cape? I froze both whole with hopes of doing a full mount on the big bird.

Do you use real (freeze-dried) turkey heads for your mounts and paint them or the plastic ones?

Hunter7x I sure can we can mix and match anyway you want ! Oldarrows I use both real and plastic its all in what you want to pay for. Freezedried are more money !! Hope this helps

Hubby and I are going boar hunting in March.
I know we aren't gonna have enough $$ to get the heads mounted. How long can I store it in the freezer and what if anything do I need to do with it if I want to mount it later?

Well heres two things you can due. No1 Bring the heads to me and make payments on the mounts or you can Double bag them making sure to get all the air out of the bag and put in the freezer and cross your fingers that they dont freezer burn. Hope this helps !!!

Misty, Dean mounted a hog for my buddy and I last year and they turned out great.

Parrothead, Well we had another great year. No monster 225" deer this season but a bunch that will make the books for sure. How did your season go ??

It started great. Saw 186 deer in Oct. several biggens. Then it petered out. I ended up shoot one doe. I still had fun though.

Do you do your own fish, or farm them out?
Do you do graphite reproductions, or skin mounts?
Lastly, I caugt a bass and a bluegill when I was still in high school that we ate. I would like to have reproductions made of them. I know the length and weight of both. Is it possible to get this done?

Different mounts take different procedures. For general cleaning on most everything we use a large makeup brush made by maybelline. This brush has bristles that are about 2 in. long and is about an inch and a quarter across. You can brush the dust and webs off everything with this, just follow the flow of the hair, feathers, or scales. On haired mounts you can use a furniture brush on a vacuum or even 30-40 psi from an air compressor. Again just follow the hair direction and use the air to lay the hair back down as you finish up your cleaning. after this you can spray a very light mist of pledge on a towel and wipe the mount down following the hair flow and this will add some luster back in again. Feathers should never be vacuumed, blow or wiped with anything as they will be destroyed beyond repair. Just use the face brush mentioned above and you can dust them just fine. Fish are the same way and should never be vacuumed blown or sprayed with anything as it may chip the paint or possible cause it to blister. If you can't get the specimen clean with the face brush, just call your taxidermist as most shops offer a cleaning service to help keep your trophy looking like new. What is the average time on doing a A full mount on a turkey?
Say it was dropped off on 4/29/06. When would a guy expect to get it back?

Depends on the taxidermist and his schedule. In our shop in northern IN, we try to run 9 mos. to a year on everything. Some guys send their turks out to a wholesaler and that could affect his turn time. If you are wondering when it will be done just call the shop you took it to and ask.
