I donated a couple of does this past Saturday (12/2) at the Outdoorsman in Greenwood. I just did hear about this program which I understand was also available at a locker in Knightstown. The deer were being processed at the Pendleton Prison and the meat was going to "Second Helpings". When I heard that I didn't have to pay for the processing fee I shot a couple extra does this weekend for the cause. If the state would always make our donations to help without charging us to do so I would always be glad to donate a few.

There a several processors in the area that will take your donation and not charge you as long as you do not get any of the meat. It is not a state run program.

you have to pay the $80 processing fee at knightstown even if you are donating. thats what the lady told me when i was in there in october. i dont know why you have to pay when you are donating though. they would probably get more people to donate if it was free

I believe that most of the processors listed are free. I think Woody took a lot of info off of the FAHFH site and posted it here.
It's best to call ahead and find out the details.

Thank youThank you a million times for all of your donations , we had a great year with FHFH in Indiana. We were able to provide 100,000 meals for the 2006-2007 season To locate a processor go to FHFH.org and click on your county that will tell you who works with FHFH . We will pay the processing fees , If you know someone with deer deprevation permits and they are willing to donate please email me at treesh, org and I will locate a butcher close to you that will process them for free. We are looking for volenteers to help this is my first full year and it is alot of fun you can help in so many ways and as much or little as you would like. if you would like more information please call 260-541-0365 or email treesh@fhfh.org

I donated a deer at the Knightstown Locker this past year. It did cost, but not nearly 80 dollars. I think it was 25 dollars. Maybe she was mistaken, or maybe she was planning to make a little side money. In either case, she told you wrong.

The program which utilizes the prison system is usually only available on opening week-end of gun season. There will be a bill this legislature for a $1 VOLUNTARY donation when purchasing hunting licenses.

Legislative hearing today on this little gem: Donated wild game processing fee. Establishes a procedure to collect voluntary donations when hunting licenses are sold. Specifies that the proceeds must be used to process donated wild game related to feeding the state's hungry. (The introduced version of this bill was prepared by the natural resources study committee.) www.state.in.us/legislative/bills/2010/IN/IN1064.1.htmlJack
