.....entitled - Deer Donations
This is a great idea from danf for a forum that we can list of deer processors in your area that will accept and process deer for the needy.
Find out from any processors in your area if they will do that and please list them here.
Post the thread by counties. If your county is already listed just add to that thread. If not please start a new thread with the county in the title.
This can change as the season progresses so anyone wanting to donate a deer through any listed processor should contact them ahead of time

Its nice to see the additional growth in the forum, especially when the purpose is to assist the less fortunate.

We used to do this in Florida as well as giving deer to the local correctional institutions for the inmates. Then the Government stuck their nose in it a stopped it because the meat did not have a USDA Stamp.

Someone told me that you still pay for the processing fee? Anyone know how these donations usually work?

Marsh's Deer Processing in Henry County donates deer for hunters for the hungery. I donated a deer last year and the year before last over there. They are also a check station, and are located on US 36 in Middletown.

Woody- Are all the ones you've posted with just a processor name, address and phone number accepting donations? Or are they just processor's that you've become aware of?

Dan, This is information I got straight from either the Farmers Hunters Feeding Hungry site or one of their area directors. Please do call ahead of time as they might only process so many on the donation thing.

That's great. I didn't realize there were so many options for donations out there. I've got a feeling there's a lot of other guys who didn't know that either.
Thanks for putting this up!

That is why we are here. To share information. We have over 750 members and each one of us has something to share. NOW - My problem is there is none listed in any county close to me. I usually donate a very large portion of my deer meat to my church food pantry. I just picked my buck up from my processor here in Warrick county. That set me back $60. Great cause though..... .

I use to grind my own (still do) and take it to the local soup kitchen. They'd make chilli, sketty or tacos from it and was very glad to get it. I don't have the big grinder I use to or I probally would still be doing it. But those of you concerned about cost and have a grinder may want to check out going that route. There is much need and many food banks that you can check with.

I used to take our venison to the local butcher to be ground, then we picked up a hand grinder from wallmart for under 20 bucks on sale , and it was a blast having the kids help and we made our own burger and even sausage very easily. I was paying 10 bucks every time I went to the butcher now I can make my own.

I picked up 1 of the on sale grinders at wal mart myself, am going to mount it on a 2X8 and get a small electric motor and mount on it also and put a pully and belt on so all I have to do is plug it in and flip the switch and a grinding we will go. I picked up a video at meijers that has a world renown wild game chef showing step by step from the actual kill to the freezer paper how to do everything with a deer and what parts are most tender and best for any cooking,, I will dig it out and anyone that would like the name will be happy to post it, if you don`t have alot of money to pay butcher costs this video is a must have to do it yourself.
