i heard from a guy( and you no how that crap goes) that a shed had been found already. Is this not way too early for that to happen?

Unusual, but not unheard of. I know of hunters who had antlers come off on the drag out.

There's a Primo's video where one of the bucks shot, falls over and one of his antlers pops off.

A good friend of mine shot a big deer in December and when he walked up to it it was a huge bodied buck that had already shed it's antlers. I do have a picture.... ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b352/hunter7x/briandeer.jpg)

i have seen two bucks in mid december without their rack. the first one i thought was the biggest doe i ever seen till it got about fifty yards and i could see its pedicals. then last year i shot one, thought it was a year a half old doe till i picked its head up. both of these deer were seen on the second weekend of muzzleloader and both a year apart

Is it possible that the shed antlers were from last year? I once found a set early in the year that were from the previous season. They had very light rodent damage, and were stained brown from laying in the dirt.

We can't be 100% sure, but it's possible by description that there's a big 6 pointer running in my family's woods that may have dropped an antler. That was 2-3 weeks ago. I've only seen the buck once- opening weekend of shotgun. The following weekend was when there was a buck seen nearby that may have been the same one but with only one antler.

The earliest shed I have ever found was on December 28th and it had been dropped sometime between Christmas and then.

Last part of December is the earliest I have found them in my neck of the woods.

I saw some deer in a field yesterday morning going to town and one was a lot bigger than the rest and it was off by itself. It looked like a buck but had no antlers. I'm almost sure it was a buck that either broke off his antlers or dropped them.
On the other hand a few years ago I saw a basket rack eight point still carry his antlers while mushroom hunting in early May. h.h.

Hornharvester I've seen antlers on pretty late too. But I have seen them dropped off early also.

Chico,
A few years ago I shot a deer two days before gun season that i thought was a nice doe. It was a buck that had broke off both antlers clear down to the skull. It was late in the evening and real hard to tell. h.h.
