We're moving to Columbus, IN from Ohio this June. My 12 year old son & I enjoy all types of hunting, fishing, and shooting but our real passion, I mean obsession, is waterfowl. We have all the gear and a good duck boat if anyone wants a hunting partner sometime. I would be really interested in a recommended waterfowl hunting spot near Columbus or Greensburg. We'll probably join a local DU chapter when I get settled in. Any good public waterfowl hunting nearby? How about recommendations for public areas in the Illinois flyway?

Thanks for the welcome. We're from Kenton, OH, which is almost directly between Toledo & Columbus. We currently hunt Indian Lake, Killdeer Plains, and Big Island. Looking forward to some new places but I will miss my "Honey Holes". I'm a little surprised with the housing market in Columbus, IN. The prices are much higher than expected but it seems like a very nice community. Another question for the locals, Does anyone know of a cheap shooting range and/or trap & skeet in the Columbus area?

I lived in the southwest corner of Bartholomew County with my parents for several years before I went to college, and I graduated from Columbus East in 2000, so I'm quite familiar with Columbus, but I don't know of any waterfowl hunting areas in particular. I do know there's a public access site by a lake off of 58--get off of 65 and go towards Ogliville (west) on 58, go towards the left at the stop sign that's a fork in the road, and turn right at the big white building (fire station) on your right. Follow that road until the T and take the T left--go straight at the church and you should see signs for the public access area off to the right somewhere. I don't know if you can hunt there, but I've fished there on occasion. Good luck finding a place, and let me know if there's anything I can do to acquaint you with Columbus!!
