Welcome! If you like room in the woods, come in early October, if you don't mind hunting with the orange army, come about the third week in October when the rut is starting. If you have some private ground to hunt, the orange army probably won't be an issue. Good luck!

Owen County boy here, been fishing, hunting, trapping since I was 9 years old. Doing a lot of squirrel sniping with the 22lr and cutting trails for my horse riding friends. Enjoy the wild and live it up.

I am new to the site. The one question I have had for a few year's is ,what is the difference ib a compound bow and a crossbow, they mostly shoot the same speed. Also, why can't I use my crossbow in the first archery season instead of the second ? I should mention that I own a shotgun, muzzleloader, compound bow and a crossbow ,that I would like to use in the first season when i'm not freezing my tail off.

I should mention that I own a shotgun, muzzleloader, compound bow and a crossbow ,that I would like to use in the first season when i'm not freezing my tail off. You pose a good question, but there is not a good answer. Years back some crossbow manufacturers tried to get a crossbow season passed through the legislature here in Indiana. This was contrary to how seasons were (and still are) set up through the NRC and the IDNR. The legislature forced the IDNR to have a crossbow season. So with their backs against the wall and being forced to do something, the IDNR said "OK, we will make it the late archery season and antlerless only." It has since been changed to any sex. There is no reason why we can not have crosbows as legal archery hunting tools. The main sticking point is that a number of bowhunters and a bowhunter group does not want to share archery season with crossbowers. Every year more and more states are recognizing that crossbows are just another form of archery and are allowing crossbows to be used in all of their archery season. That will happen in Indiana some day. Pleas let the IDNR know of your concerns. Welcome to the site.
