We ran another youth hunt last Saturday over at Presnell's Plantation in Morgantown. Had a great time. As usual the kids really surprized me. We had some drawings and gave away some prizes like vests and gloves and stuff. Took them to the shooting range and let them bang away to work out the kinks and then sent off to the fileds one at a time. In between we fed them lunch. I forgot how much food teenage boys and girls eat. We had set up 3 fields and had members of Pheasants Forever and the Conservation Bird Dog Club from Amo, In there so there were lots of of really good dogs. Had all rooster pheasants planted and each kid had a fair chance at 2 birds. They were escorted by a mentor and a dog handler and instructed very closely. Some had hunted a lot and some not all. They all got the message though that hunting wasn't always about the kill. And some did not kill a bird but they all got the chance. It was a good safe hunt and filled with good memories. 22 kids got to experiece a fun day afield and it was more than worth it when a little kid who didn't kill a bird ran up to me and thanked me for having him out and hoped we would do it again next year. We will. Jack
