The topic on this and the reply from Buster got me thinking. The question was. I would like to take my bow out during firearms season, but take my Encore pistol as a backup in case I see something a little farther out. It is my understanding from reading the rules book that this is not a legal practice. Is that true?
Notice the question was about a bow during firearm season not a firearm in archery season. I understand the law about not havng a firearm in bow season but this looks like he is asking about a bow during firearm season. Why would this not be legal to carry a legal weapon (the handgun) in season and carry a lessor weapon ( the bow) also with it being legal to hunt firearm season with a bow also.

Even during firearms season, you cannot possess a firearm while deer hunting with archery equipment. Don't know the exact reasoning for this (I have my own opinion) but nontheless, it is prohibited.
