What is the rule for harvesting an animal that once was populated in Indiana but no longer exist here, such as bear, elk, cougar? Chances are these are more then likely escaped from pens or released by the owners, but there is a chance to have an individual migrate in from some of the surrounding states, like the wolf shot in East Central Indiana a few years ago. Not that I have any leads but if given the opportunity who knows?? Thanks, Ryan

Those animals you have listed are not protected in Indiana, meaning that you can harvest those animals in Indiana. I personally challenge anyone to harvest one of the supposed 'MANY' Mountain Lions/Cougars that are supposed to be roaming in the Indiana countryside! I am not referring to bobcats (which are still a protected species in Indiana), but the real McCoy, a mountain lion, the cat that many Hoosiers claim to have seen with thier own very eyes. Funny how so many people claim to have spotted this elusive creature in the state, but none have ever been shot by hunters?
