A friend of mine said it is legal to use live bait (chickens) for taking coyotes. Supposedly, he call the IDNR and they told him since coyotes are a nuisance animal, they may be taken by any means, including live bait. However, they also told him that if a fox or coon came in, he could not shoot either of them, only coyotes. Is this true?

I have not heard of this being legal for coyotes and not for fox or coon. Coyotes are a furbearer just as fox, coon. muskrats, beaver, skunk, oppossum, etc. There are no regulations that prohibit the use of bait to take furbearers.
