Is it illegal to discharge a firearm on, in or near a river? Example: Shooting a Water Moccasin in a low hanging branch that could drop into your boat while floating a river.

Tusti,
It is illegal to discharge a firearm into or across state waters, unless you are in legal pursuit of game. Water Moccasin's are a protected species in Indiana. It is also illegal to hunt fur bearer's from a boat. You may hunt several species from a boat as you are not under power of a motor. An example of species that are legal to hunt from a boat or to shoot at across water would be waterfowl, whitetail deer, and squirrel's to name a few. You must also remember if you are floating and hunting animals that are on the land you must have permission from the land owner.
