I didn't get out with a crossbow in late season last year, but can a non-handicapped hunter still take a buck in the late season?
Is that up for some kind of review this year or next?
Thanks

A person can take a deer of either sex with a crossbow during the late archery season. I'm not sure about any type of review pending. Woody would probably know more.

PBR,
To answer your question about a late season crossbow buck review..
It was originally proposed to allow the non-handicapped crossbower the very same opportunity like anyone else to take a buck in late season provided that they had not taken one in a previous season. That was with no expiration date in the proposal.
Because of the wording in the proposal a couple of organized hunting groups met with and was able to convince the last IDNR director to make it a "five year trial" that would be up for renewal or elimination on August 31, 2007. That also happens to coincide with the One Buck Restriction time frame although supposedly they are not linked.
The section in the archery regulations reads:
(b) Except as specified in subsection (d), the statewide seasonal limit for hunting under this section is one (1) deer of either sex. After August 31, 2007, a person must not take an antlered deer by means of a crossbow.
Of course this date was like the One Buck Restriction trial in that no parameters for success or failure was established before the trial began. Just do it and then decide later.
My suggestion is if you want to be allowed to hunt a buck with a crossow in the late season, just like anyone else does, then you need to contact the IDNR and voice you opinion.
I know I will......
