I've always wondered why someone would become a CO , as I'm sure many of us have , so why did you guys choose the career path that you have . Don't say "because of the money" , we already know better . LOL

Kevin1,
Well, personally I had a high school teach that became a good friend/hunting and fishing parter that got me interested. His father had been a conservation officer until he retired in 1980. Like most people I didn't know what I was going to do after high school. My friend suggested that I become a conservation officer. I guess I had never had anyone encourage me to become anything. He believed in me enough to think that I could accomplish this goal and that inspired me to do it. I found a book from Vincennes University that listed careers. When I read the job description I knew that was what I wanted to do. I stayed focused on becoming a C.O. I knew that the odds were against me but I was not discouraged by that. I knew that if I didn't make it I would just have to keep trying. I hunted and fished every chance I got and read everything about it that I could get my hands on. I stayed in tune with what the IDNR was doing and when they were hiring. I also took advice from people as to how to best prepare myself for not only this job but being a marketable employee. One thing that I found is that honesty is still the best policy. I believed that the natural resource laws were in place for a reason and I wanted to spend my life enforcing them so that others would have the same oportunities that I had. That and I heard they made a lot of money! lol Thanks for the question.
