What is the protocol for finding dead bucks after season? If found on private property can the antlers be kept? Does a CO need to be involved?
If the kill looked fresh or suspicious, I'd definitely get a CO involved, but if it was an older, predatorial kill or the buck just died of old age, I was just curious as to what procedures should be taken.
Thanks in advance.

jstalljon,
It is legal to pickup shed antlers in Indiana with out obtaining a permit. However, Indiana code 14-22-10-5 addresses Title of wild animals illegally taken or accidentally killed. It states that the possession is not vested in the taker of the wild animal but remains in the state. Indiana Administrative Code 312 IAC 9-3-9 addresses this exact issue more clearly. It states that a deer struck by a motor vehicle or found dead may be possessed under a permit issued by a conservation officer. I have issued many permits for animals that were found.
Thanks ICO Winchell
