Hi, first of all thank you for taking your time to answer questions on our forum. Secondly, my family has several lake cottages on Story Lake in Ashley Indiana. The lake has issues with low water. The state put in a dam to keep the lake stable, however local farmers complained about the lake level, stating the original lake level of 50 years ago as the proper level. Now everyones docks are way out of water, and some people can't even dock their boats at their lots due to low water. Another issue this has raised is the channel that connects the two lakes, is so low that my father and others have ruined their outboards due to silt. Who do we talk to about getting the channel and parts of the lake dredged. And is there anyway the CO for that area could check it out it and write a letter to help get something accomplished? Thank you for your time.

Decatur,
The IDNR division of water would be able to best assist you in answering your question. The number to call is (317) 232-4160 ask for the division of water. I do not have answer to your question, however it sounds that there are several issues at hand. I can say that recreation definately is secondary to other issues of flood control and irrigation when dealing with water ways. You may also consult the Army Corp of Engineers as a second alternative after speaking with the division of water.
