This question might help answer a issue that has haunted me for several years.
Several years ago I was drawn to hunt one of the first Muscatatuck refuge hunts. A young man I worked with was drawn the same day and in order to save cost of the trip he rode with me. That day was cold with rain, I gave him a extra key to my vehicle just in case he got wet and needed a palce to get out of the weather. He went his direction and I went mine. Around noon I returned to the parking lot only to find him parked in the roadway not in the lot I left him in. By his story he had been walking down the main north south road looking for another location due to to many hunters in the area he first chose. As he walked down the road some deer started heading towards the road, he said he then stepped off the road to the ditch and shot one as they passed by. The C.O.s parked on a nearby hill seen him do this by his story and ask if he had a vehicle in the parking lot to which he said yes. Then told him to go get the vehicle and return to the roadside in the area the deer had died. They then wrote him a ticket and took his muzzleloader till he paid the fine for hunting from the roadway. I have no doubt the part of his story was true about shooting from the road. What has haunted me all these years was on the ticket it stated he Illegally operated a 1979 dodge ramcharger licence # ****** this was my vehicle not his.
The part about operating my vehicle illegally. Is it common to write that on a ticket or in your opinion was he hunting from the vehicle while driving the road. I do know he did that afterwards in his own vehicle on Willow Slough property and the Newton county officer was on the lookout for him.
It might sound silly but this has haunted me since the day it happened.
