The question has come up ...my stand is no but we need the good law enforcement gentlemen to clear this up ...
Can you shoot beaver vs. trapping them ?

Jim, This is an interesting question and I hope you did not lay too much of a wager on this bet. The answer is yes, you can shoot a beaver during the taking season. The key word is "take" which by definition includes to shoot. I have included the statute which is in the Indiana administrative code. The defintion of "Take" is in Indiana Code 14-8-278. A landowner may also take a furbearing mammal at anytime if the animal is causing damage however a Conservation Officer must be notified with in seventy-two hours and the carcass must be disposed of.
