I have a small kit that is with me on every hunt for in the field use.The kit consists of:
1) latex gloves - 2 pair
2) N.A.P. zip-saw
3) Outdoor Edge Whitetail Skinner knife
4) 3 ft. parachute cord
5) small trash bag if hunting in sub-urbs for removal of waste
6) large zip-lok bag for heart
7) travel size Germ-x & hankerchief
The steps are as follows- if alone, use the parachute cord to assist with holding the back leg or legs by tieing to nearby trees,fencepost,etc..Once legs are secured put on both pair of rubber gloves.Take the Skinner and grab it with the gut hook down, put the tip of the blade center of brisket where the belly starts.Press the tip firmly until the gut hook has hide under it.Now just pull steady towards the the pelvic area.Flip the blade over and make an incision to the pelvic bone trying to keep it as centered as possible. At this point I prefer to remove all the intestines below the diaphram, once that is done I take the zip-saw and cut the pelvic bone. Those of you that haven't tried this little tool are missin' out!Check it out at New Archery Products website, it truly is a great product for adding to a dressing pack. Now that we are ready to remove the heart/lungs I remove the first set of gloves.I do this because we eat the heart and by removeing the outer set that was used for the intestines it insures no contamination.Once I tried the zip saw and the skinner knife the pair has been with me on every trip. You can also use the Germ-x/hankerchief to clean up you critter for in the field pics.Hope I wasn't too long winded.
