I agree with WTH... don't waste your money...do your own...it's not that hard and it can be a good way to get the whole family involved with the hunting process

THere is a guy in North Vernon that does them and he charges by the pound. He was tired of people saying they didnt get all there meat back. I would call Scottys archery or check with the black arrow achery right there in Vernon on the river.

Isn't too far from you. I take mine there and I think they do a pretty good job. They started taking deer 24 hrs. a day last year, so no worries if you shoot one late.

Anybody know of a good processor in Jennings county , i would go back to Muscatatuck by Crosley but the Doe i took there last year took a month to get back. Barrett's in Scott Co. Isn't too far from you. I take mine there and I think they do a pretty good job. They started taking deer 24 hrs. a day last year, so no worries if you shoot one late. Two years ago I dropped a deer off at Barrets around noon and told me I'd be ready in 5 days. So I rush back home to get back in the woods and when I came out I had a voicemail on my cell phone. They left a message and said my deer was ready for pick up and must be picked up tonight. I said ? I just dropped it off 5 hours ago. "Well we're not sure what happened but please come pick it up". It wasn't froze and the paper packaging was totally blood soaked a wet. It was nasty mess. That was my last trip. Their self service cooler is a bit different. You put your ticket on it and shove it down a roller conveyor and the deer drops in a refridgerated bin. Kind of cool I guess but the deer get all piled up on top of each other. My past few processors I've been dissapointed with so now I do my own including making my own summer sausage and snack sticks and much happier with the results and money saved. I'll put my snack sticks up against anyones ;D Darlages in Seymour is another one I would not recommend. Probably the best I have used is Meyers in St. Louis Indiana, just north of Hope and south of Shelbyville. They also make good summer sausage and snack sticks. Just my 2 cents...

I agree with the others, do your own. With all the books out there and information on this site, anyone can process there own deer. Once you get used to the process, it doesn't take that long and you know that you are getting YOUR deer, not someone else's.

I am sure not every one who hunts, lives in an area where it is ok to process your own deer. Try processing your Deer on the back patio of your city Apartment with neighbors watching and see what happens.
We do not all live in the sticks! lol

i know some guys that might process a few deer in jennings co. this coming season but they do not make any kind of sausage, but know some people who will. some lockers will take good lean clean chunked meat for sausage making . they only have a small walk in cooler that will hold about 5 or 6 deer and will make steaks roast and burger

Hey Hawkeye, You can cut up your deer in the woods and take it home and do the rest of the cutting and grinding on the kitchen table. But if that is not what you like,,,,by all means take it ot butcher and let him do it for you!
