I love the looks of the upper end grinders that are for sale in Cabela's, but holy cow they are expensive. I know some people make their own using electric motors, gear reducers, and normal hand grinders. If a person wanted to make their own, where would he find the parts? Are the high dollar units really worth all that money?

The link that hornharvester posted is the place to go if you want to make your own grinder.
But here again the $99.00 200 watt #8 electric meat grinder is more than enough grinder for the average do it yourself home deer processor. In fact Bass Pro has these little units on sale this week for $69.00 just about the price for getting one deer processed.

Thanks guys. dabutcher, I checked ebay and there are a ton of grinders there. Can you post a link to your grinder, or send me a PM with the pertinant info?

Another question....in looking at grinders I see them listed as #8, #10, #22, #32, etc. What do the numbers stand for?

the numbers are the head size. the larger the number the larger the grinding head and usually the larger the grinder. the plate and blade of a #22 would be to small diameter for a #32. my grinder has a #22 head on it. h.h.
