WW,
i use a saws-all with a tree pruning blade. the blade has long, sharp, coarse teeth. i use it to cut the feet and head off and then saw the body right down the backbone so the deer hangs in two halfs. works real good and the two halfs are easier to handle on butchering day. before the saws-all i used a handsaw and before i got done it felt like my arm would fall off. lol h.h.

Is that a special sawz-all blade? Or the typical larger toothed wood blade?

Is that a special sawz-all blade? Or the typical larger toothed wood blade? the blade is just the wood pruning blade with large teeth. i get them a walmart for about $6.00. it sure is easier using this saw compared to doing it by hand. h.h.

I never saw them in half. Cut them where they hang.

IMO, The potential problem with sawing deer in half would be the potential spread of CWD by dispersing the spinal column all over the carcass. Deer could have CWD and not show any symptoms. A lot of unknowns about CWD. If it wasn't for that I'd do it as I have a recip saw.

my way of doing a deer is deboning the whole deer when it is hanging,,, my best time is 12 minutes and the meat is in my outside frig to cool down, been doing this close to 18 years now without any problems.
