Just a though, but I wish they were. Would save me alot of gas going to local fishing spots, and they would be safer than mopeds. I know they are legal in some counties, but why not statewide. It doesnt take much to affix a mirror and turn signals. Sure would be nice to take the quad out on a nice day. Some european companies even make DOT approved tires for quads. I know the obvious down falls of not having a rear differential and tire wear, but my truck doesnt exactly do well at these things either lol.

Not saying I agree with it... but I'm guessing we are closer to seeing licenses, restrictions and offroad requirements for ATV's than we are seeing them on the streets. The liberals and trial lawyers have really taken a close look at ATV's over the past three or four years.... I think we're just one more Oprah episode away from seeing them restricted or even banned in many states.
Those who laugh at this theory need to travel around this country with a pack of cigarettes in their pocket. Yes they are legal, but you'll soon find how lawyers, politicians and liberal media have changed your rights in certain areas of the country.

I agree if they were limited to county roads only processor. I would additionally like to see a hunter orange pennet atop a 6' whip pole & an SMV placard.

I too would love to see this happen but I just don't think it ever will. Yes I believe that on certain roads they should be illegal, maybe not drive in the center lane of 465 but on local roads I don't see a problem. Plus it is not like it is going to be a 12month automobile. You can drive like you said to a local fishing spot/hunting area. You don't have to take your wife to town to eat or go grocery shopping on it. Like I said, love to see it but probably never will.

You couldn't tell that it's not legal here , I see them on the street all the time . As long as they obey the rules of the road and can get ticketed like cars I have no problem with it , no different than a motorcycle to me .

I hear ya Kevin1, they are all over and allot I see do not have the sticker. Seems kind of silly not to spend 30 bucks to be legal. When Tower Automotive in Corydon was in its hay day all kinds of people rode there atv's to work there. I ride mine all over Harrison and Crawford county going fishing on Blue river or just a nice scenic drive down to Milltown for an ice cream..... must say the women love it (at least in the summer that is).

I'd rather see atvs on the road than bicycles.

I'd rather see atvs on the road than bicycles. thats kind of what I was thinking. I see alot of kids riding mopeds on the street. How are these safer than an atv? I had even seen one girl make a trun and fall over, almost getting run over in the process. Safer? That is debatalble, But they are legal.

They are semi legal here in Vigo county, you have to stay off of state, federal roads but you can use them on county roads and you can cross main roads but are not supposed to ride on them. I agree with lights, turn signals, and possibly an orange flag on a whip They should be easier to see than one of the moped type cycles that are street legal and you do not need to put plates on. As for Bicycles they should have their own lane or have to ride on the pull off lane. I road one on the streets back in the late 50's and early 60's but then again there was less traffic, but it was still dangerous. If there was a footpath or graded edge I used it.

I think they should have a whip and flag, SMV placard and all turn signals, tailights etc. You should also have a drivers license, and take a course like you do for a motorcycle license. I see them on the road all of the time and usually it's kids doing donuts on stone roads, throwing all the gravel into ditches so we have to pay to put more down. Personally, I think ATV's are making lazy hunters out of some people, and that a lot of land is destroyed by their use by some a**holes who don't care where or how they ride. They end up giving everyone who rides a black eye. I personally know of 2 farms that are of limits to all access, including hunting, because people made trails through corn fields. Now that just pi**es me off!

Ditto on that decatur. I especially like how the ATV shows on the outdoor channels will tell you to ride gently to prevent erosion, but then all the commercials show people ripping through muddy trails.
