I'm hitting the Pheasant opener in Il. this weekend. Anyone else going. Taking a pup for her first wild bird hunt, I can't wait. I'm also taking Jake , so the birds are in the bag.

To a little place called Hoopston. It's a friends family farm.

Keep us posted...Illinois always intrigued me. It's the only state around that I haven't pheasant hunted.
Did used to go down to So. Ill (Olney) to quail hunt but never the Northern part.

Hoopston, IL is across the line from the metropolis of Ambia, IN where I used to hunt all the time.

Well we had a great hunt. I didn't take the pup because of the attitudes of the guys we were hunting with. The guy that owns the ground loves Jake, but his kin folk say bad things about pointers. Two of the three cousins warmed up to the dog pretty fast. The other said he could do just as well without a dog. So he walked ahead of us to find his own birds. To make a long story short, 4 of us limited out in 2 hours and one of us didn't get a bird. Sunday 3 of us went out with Jake and limited out in an hour. We saw lots of birds and some great dog work. Jake is growing up to be one fine Pointer. This is his third season, first time on wild pheasants and I couldn't have asked any more out of him. I'm so proud to own such a wonderful hunting partner. Those Lostriver dog are hard to beat.
