Has anyone ever gone to one of these? I noticed that some of these are open through April. How is this legal, since the dates don't match the regulations? I would like to hunt quail and pheasant, but this state has few opportunities. What do you all think?

I think that they are a great way to get out of the house and keep your dog in tune. There are some good ones and some bad ones, and I've found that you usually get what you pay for. Do some research on the computer and find one that fits what your looking for. There are plenty to choose from.

They offer a great opportunity to work the dogs & bag some birds otherwise next to impossible to find in our natural environment. "Private owned" bird preserves have different dates due to the put & take procedure for hunting the released birds.

I would like to hunt quail and pheasant, but this state has few opportunities. What do you all think? I`ve only been to one preserve, but I`ve been going there for better than 9 years now. Royal Flush in Parke County is great. Shawn Brown re-did the lodge several years ago, and it went from a little shack, to a pretty neat area to relax and talk about the hunt, or watch hunting DVD’s. His guides, at least the one’s I`ve hunted with, are great. Their dogs are experienced, reliable dogs, and the cover is good. We’ve hunted there in the part of the season where it`s hard to find cover that hasn’t been beaten thin by the weather, and the birds have plenty of cover. I typically get out there 4 or 5 times a year, after I`ve killed a deer or two, hopefully. Shawn also has dove hunting early in the season, and he offers guided wild turkey hunts in the spring too.

THere is also another place near Mitchell. I mostly go there for the clay birds, because it is the nicest facility I have ever seen. It is also cheap. 4 bucks for a round of trap. I also shoot high house low house skeet there, very fun and very reasonable price. Sugar Creek Sporting Clays.

Just now noticed this...Shawn does have a great preserve at Royal Flush. I've been there twice and I've enjoyed myself a ton each time! I've had good company too though. I'm sure I'll be there at least once this coming winter.

I have hunted Lost River and Royal Flush. They are both great places with good people. You won't be disappointed with either of these places.
