Was out road cruising my hunting areas last night and saw four bucks coming out of one of the wood lots I have permission to hunt. Put the glasses on them and looked them over pretty good. One was the best caliber buck I've seen around these parts for several years. Bet he was 150 or better, and one of his compadres wasn't much smaller.
That sure will get a guy pumped up for bow hunting.

Nice, looks like the weather is going to cool down nice for the weekend. Hope the rain holds off for at least one of the mornings.

Deer starts here this Saturday, pumped up is an understatement! There is a couple of Big boys cruising my Bow area as well. Good luck all.

Good luck John. I haven't seen any big ones but that doesn't mean they aren't there. Getting lots of rain now thay we really needed. Sure glad it is cooling off.

By the looks of the radar screen it will all night too.
Forecast for the opener will be about 69 as a high and sunny.. Not bad...

Opening weekend should be interesting for me. I have been invited to a killer area down south with my pastor! The weather seems ideal as well... ;D

Wow ! Just saw those four bucks again this evening. Got a good look at them this time, better light. The big boy is a dandy 10 point. He'll go about 150. Good spread, mass & height. Kind of short brow tines and G-4's.

The trail cam pictures report that my opening day stand area is home for two large 12 pointers....God help them if they walk near my stand Saturday.

Boy,I must be in the wrong place,all these really nice Bucks being sighted. Today in my woods saw 2 spikes and one small buck with very small 4 points and all feeding togather in a corn feel. when are they going to harvest?

Just currious, You guys are all lookin for these big bucks, Do you get them mounted or are you just shootin them for the braggin rights. Cause if your goin for taste i would much rather eat doe. That is all i have ever shot.

That is all i have ever shot. I'm with you icedude,my first one was an 8 pointer an man was he tough eating.Since then they've all been does and buttons,man mmmm good ;D.

I have never had a tough deer. I do prefer deer who have not been stuffed with acorns though. To me it gives then a stronger taste.

The best eating deer I've ever had was a young doe I bowkilled in Pennsylvania. I was hunting out of an apple tree in the middle of a big clover field. She was full of apples and clover.. Very sweet meat..

I killed a buck in muzzleloader season a few years ago that was badly worn down from the rut, it harly had an ounce of visible fat anywhere on its body. Since I had pretty much all the meat I needed for the year. I gave it to my uncle and after he had it processed, he gave me some burger, sausage and jerky out of it. Although the grinder took toughness out of issue I still figured it would be very gamey. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was some of the best deer I have ever eaten.

mbogo, Most of the processing facilities that I know, process 1000 lbs or 500 lbs at a time. If a person wants their own meat to be done they have to pay a cleaning fee. Not saying that a Big ol' buck dont taste good (the ones I ate did) but more than likely the meat that you ate would have been a "batch" gride. This is another reason I process my own deer.

Idhmc, while it is certainly possible that the meat was a mixture of several deer, the time of the season and the size of this particular processor make it less likely in this case.
I usually wait until late in the season or until season is over to take my meat in for processing and even then specify that it not be mixed with other deer.

Judging from the acorn drop in my area you may want to stick to does this year , the oaks here are stuffed . There's lots of ag still in the fields and what looks to be a good mast year , Throw in the new reduction counties and other new opportunities and it's beginning to look like a meat hunter's dream year . And judging from the reports it seems the trophy folks will have a good year too . Man , it just doesn't get any better than this !
