Finally got my food plots in, just in time for some long over due rain. Hopefully things will be up just in time for are Youth Season. I put out some oats, wheat, soy beans, clover and turnips. Here's some pics of what things looked like before and after. We did most of the work with small equipment, but it got the job done.

Looks good. With the rains it should take off in a few days. I checked my plots last Thursday evening and the turnips and rape are a foot tall. They should be taller with the 3" of rain we got. h.h.

Not bad though. I checked mine the other day and with all the rain we had it bloomed out the foxtail. I very disappointed in mine. I'll bet you next year I wont have one weed in mine. h.h.

John,
The foxtail jumped right up in my plot with the rain. The rest of the plants look good and the first freeze will kill off the foxtail. Next year I'll hit it with Round UP and couple times before I plant. My clover plots look excellent, no weeds and the deer are really on them. They've got the clover ate down to 2-3". h.h.

Where did you get your seeds? I got most of my seed from Standish Farm Supply in Bedford. The Full Draw, I got at Wal-Mart. The turnips I got down in Missouri at a small feed store. At the time Standish did not have any bulk turnip seeds.

I planted corn for a food plot this year and will plant turnips and winter wheat mixed with fall oats late summer. My plot is shaped like a big "d" with 16 rows of corn 80 yds long making up the bottom part of the "d". The turnips will be planted next to the right side of the corn 12 ft. wide and 80 yds long. The wheat and oats mix will be planted 12ft wide and 100 yds long and be the top part of the "d'. My stand sits at the middle of the bottom of the "d" so I can see down the rows and all the 180 yds of the turnips and wheat.
I planted the corn mainly for cover since deer love to hide in corn fields if pressured and the turnips, wheat and oats for food. If this works like I thing it will this will be how I plant it from now on. h.h.
