Its a tad early yet but tomorrow I'm going to plant my fall plots with Shot Plot and Pro-Graze mix. The Shot Plot is turnips and will be for this fall and the Pro-Graze is clovers and will come up next spring. The deer will have the clovers for next summer and then I'll plow it under and do it all over. Plowing clover under helps put nitrogen back into the soil. h.h.

Got mine done today. Did two today and had another one in clover since last year. The first picture is my big plot and it was planted with turnips, rape, yellow blossom clover, red clover, alsike clover, lespedesa. The clovers will be under the turnips and come up next spring for a summer plot. This plot is small about 25 yds x 10 yds. Its hard to get into it so i used the disc, planted the same mix as the other plot and then rode my 4 wheeler over it to get the seed covered. If you look in the third picture you can see my stand in the cotton wood where the dead pine branches are. Im standing on a small hill across from it taking the picture. Hit them both with 200 lbs of 12-12-12 so all I need now is a good rain and we are suppose to get that tonight and tomorrow. h.h.

We got about 3/4 inch rain last night. We need about 6" but hopefully this dry weather will be over soon. My plots should be up in about a week. h.h.

Actually ive been planting these plots for about 5 years now and I did have two buck fight in the little patch one evening in Oct. They weren't big, a small six and small eight. They went at it for over 45 minutes. I hate to say this but I got tired of watching them. h.h.

One thing you might want to consider, if you have not done it yet, is to check your soil for magnesium. This is a very important mineral, and our midwest soils are a little short on it. Also pH of the soil is important, and a pH of around 6.5 is proper for most grassy crops.

HH What kind of disk do you have? It looks like it works well . My soil has alot of clay , I dont know if that kind of disk will work for me?

I have a 10 foot disc that's on the back of a 504 International tractor, not on my 4 wheeler. One that goes on a 4 wheeler would work, you just have to go over it more time to get it broke up. Adding weight to the disc helps too. h.h.
