Has anyone used or had any experience with the no till/plow seed? or is it just marketing? Thanks.

i don't use it but with out some sort of seed bed prep and fertilizer you cant expect too much grow. a small well prep plot would be better than a large one with weeds. good luck, h.h.

Thanks H.H. Any recommendations for planting in a wooded area, without much sun?

You'd be surprised what you can get to grow in a wooded area with minimal sun.
My only patch is in the woods and only gets 5-6 hours of direct sun per day. Everything I plant is a late summer/early fall planting (at this point anyway) and it does fine. I posted a thread on here last fall when I got mine planted, you should be able to find it somewhat easily...

I would go to the local elevator and get some feed oats and few bags of fertilizer. Oats are 8.00 or so a bushel and fertilizer around 10.00 for 50lbs. Prep the seed bed as good as you can with a rake, hoe or rotor-tiller if you have one. You can hand seed the oats by scattering them as even as possible or use a yard seeder/fertilizer to spread them out. Then use the rake to scratch them in. Oats will grow where nothing else will and the deer love it. If you plant them around the last of August or first part of Sept you should have a nice stand of oats by Oct. h.h.

Just rent a grass dethatcher and set it deep as it will go.
Run over the ground a couple times and it will scratch it up pretty good.
Scatter your seed and then use the back of the rake to turn most seeds under. they do not need to be very deep.
Then fertilize.
That is how I reseed my yard. I'm sure it will work with food plot seeds too..
Good luck. let us know what you did and how you make out.

Oh... BTW... kill all vegetation with Round Up a couple weeks prior to dethatching and planting...

Oh... BTW... kill all vegetation with Round Up a couple weeks prior to dethatching and planting... make sure you do this, woods vegetation is great about growing where it grows, which is where little else does, if you dont kick it in the guts good, you will never see what you planted come up. roundup, disc, dethatch, whatever, then roundup again, lots of seeds left in the ground, best thing to do is to kill, work, kill, work, then plant...

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to put things together this weekend and start the process. I will let you know how it works out.
