I am beginning to manage aprrox. 200 acres for wildlife. A part of that process is controlled burning. My question is: Does anyone know where I can buy what is called a drip torch? Handy item to have when trying to do controlled burns. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

www.benmeadows.com/store/Fire_and_Rescue/Firefighting_Equipment/Wildland_Firefighting_Equip/12358/If that doesn't take you to one, search for item 105238. It sounds like you aren't sure that it's called a drip torch. I'd recommend getting in touch with Fire Headquarters and get some training. You *definately* need some Nomex or fire resistant cotton clothing when doing burning. I see you are in Clay County which isn't too terribly far from me. If you want or need help, let me know- I've got the PPE and some experience! ;D

danf:
Thanks for the information and offering to help, it's appreciated. Ive got 10 acres of 8' horse weeds along the river. Next Feb./Mar. I'm wanting to burn them off so I can get it under control. Then in spring I can come in with some kind of low cover or food plot.
You offer good suggestions.........the Clay Coubty way is to wait for a "Waco Texas" kind of day, get 5 gal. of gasoline and a zippo. (oh yeah.......and a case of beer) ;D

I've actually done a burn in Clay County and the landowner got in touch with the local fire department and they handled most of the details. A cash donation to the fire department works wonders and they have all the equipment.
