i put out two trace mineral salt blocks in different spots and have for several years. im sure it helps with animal health and horn growth but dont have any scientific evidence to prove it. ive watched deer, squirrels and rabbits use the blocks. the rain dissolves the block into the surrounding dirt and the animals eat the dirt. h.h.

I've heard that the trace minerals works as good as anything.
A hunter once told em that he uses the granular trace mineral salt and spades it into the dirt. s Deer will eat the dirt quicker than they will lick a salt block.

I agree with the hornharvester. Five years ago I started putting mineral blocks our for the deer. I know have a hole 10" deep and six foot square. It is in a low spot and the hole often fills with water. A trail cam tells us that they use this spot as a watering hole as much as anything. Never thought of using a granular and spading it in. I think Woody has a good idea, because they do eat the dirt more than lick the block. Mineral blocks are a lot cheaper than things like Anter King, etc. and I think work just as well. Again, used with a trail cam you can see what the property is holding real quick. Does it produce bigger racks......can't tell.

I poured mine over a stump it looks like they eat more of the dirt around the stump more than the stump. I think i will try spading it into the ground next time. thanks for the input

I use prefered sheep and goat mineral from the local farm supply store. The deer love it and it costs about $12 for 50 lb.
