Two should be a dead giveaway but one is a tougher one. Also name the type of butterfly on the last photo. 1. 2. 3.

1. D'uh- easy one 2. D'uh- another easy one 3. D'uh- yet another easy one!
As for the butterfly, I have NO idea-- I'm a landscaper, not a bug-ologist!
I'll send you a PM, if there's any 'prize' involved in this, you can send it to whoever gets it right besides me. It's just too easy for me!

Why does there always have to be a prize? Hey Woody give danf an all expensed paid vacation to Alaska for getting the three plants right ;D ;D
Any entomologists in the group? You guys can even do a google a butterfly search. You really don't have to be an expert. Its just good to know good old mother nature. Also makes you look like the expert around your huntin buds.

Monarda Black-eyed susan echinacea sp. (purple coneflower)
The butterfly is more difficult due to the wings being folded and lack of sharpness of the image. I suspect one of the Fritillaries, (Spereria cybele) or an aphrodite, (Speyeria aphrodite)

I wasn't expecting a "prize", just saying IF there was one..... You didn't say anything about it, so I wasn't sure. You've offered them in the past, you know.... ;D
Gunner and I agree on the plants!

danf I was just giving you hell for being the smart kid in class. I'd do prizes if I thought someone else could win. Not too many native plant enthusiasts here. Anyway I think the butterfly was a Painted Lady - Vanessa cardui Not 100% sure since I know nothing about bugs. lol

Still can't say for sure on the butterfly, I'll take your word for it. I'm thinking that it's on a Buddlea spp. - Butterfly bush, though.... ;D Smart kid? Not if you knew how I did in HORT 318!! I just happen to know more about cultivated ornamental plants than your average Joe!

That's not totally true FastEddie. I have all three included in my landscaping. I just thought danf needed an ego boost, so I didn't answer. ;D
BTW.....that is most assuredly a painted lady butterfly

Ego boost? Most people think I need to be brought down some! ;D These certainly weren't the hardest plants to ID... By no means am I saying I know them all, these were just rather basic! Perhaps I should start quizzing over cultivated plants?

I planted 6 new butterfly bushes last fall to go with the 3 I already had. Just cannot have to many of them. Some have been blooming for a month and some are just starting. Last year I had several hummingbird moths feeding on them.

I planted 6 new butterfly bushes last fall to go with the 3 I already had. Sorry about your luck. Best way to fertilize them is with a 10% glyphosate solution on a REALLY hot, dry sunny day in August! ;D I HATE those things.... Almost as much as barberry's.
