THANKS EVERYONE! It's been a long 2 days for sure. I finally found time to post the story. Since my buddy Dean could only hunt one day in Illinois he had the 1st choice of stands. I dropped Dean off and drove off. I had gone about 600 yards when a nice 8 pointer ran in front of the truck. I hit him and rolled him over several times. I got out and checked Deans truck for damage. A bent bumper and broken grill was all the damage that I could see so I headed to my spot. I was in the same tree stand that I had killed an 8 pointer out of during bow season. Dean had seen another 8 pointer that had a 24 inch spread in this spot. At 9:15 a.m. I hadn't seen a deer yet. There was plenty of shooting around me but no deer. About 125 yards in front of me I could see a deer swimming the river. With my binoculars I could see it was a doe but right behind her was a big buck! They got out of the river and was heading for me. The doe starting angling away from me and I thought to myself "If he follows her into the bean field it's gonna be a long shot". To my surprise he just kept coming directly at me. At 40 yards he stopped to munch on some beans and I put the cross hairs where the neck meets the shoulder. When I shot he dropped in his tracks. On the way out I was told by the land owner that his cousin was an outfitter he was gonna start hunting this farm and this was the last day we could hunt that farm. I went back to Indiana to get the 4-wheeler, my Dad and my buddy Jason. When I called Dean he said he would keep hunting till we got back. When we returned we picked up Dean ( he never saw a deer all morning). We got the deer gutted and loaded up. By this time it was 2 pm. Dean decided to go to another farm to hunt. Dad, Jason and myself where gonna go back and pull stands off the farm that I killed the deer at. When we got there we saw a 150" buck in the unpicked beanfield. I called Dean and told him and he said "Come back and get me, I'll try a stalk". When we got back with Dean the buck had went back into the woods. Dean decided to go to one of our stands that was close to where we saw the buck. Dean was half way there when 6 does came his way and the 10 pointer was right behind. He made a great shot. Deans deer scored 152" and field dressed 220lbs. My deer scored 168" and field dressed 203lbs. Thanks to my Dad and Jason for the help. When friends and family are a part of something like this, it makes it so much more memorable.

Great story and pics! Did you ever find the deer that you hit with the truck? Sounds like that place is crawling with big bucks........totally stinks that you can't hunt it anymore.

Great story and pics! Did you ever find the deer that you hit with the truck? Sounds like that place is crawling with big bucks........totally stinks that you can't hunt it anymore. He ran across a field that is about 800 yards wide. I never found blood or the deer. I was only going about 25 mph so I think he is gonna be sore for awhile but isn't gonna die.

Very nice bucks and good story, except for the "his cousin was an outfitter he was gonna start hunting this farm and this was the last day we could hunt that farm" part.
Illinois will someday SOON be all outfitters..
Too bad on that part.
