Guys, Just returned from 3 week hunt on the southern tip of the Alaska Peninsula. I hunted big coastal brown bears on a private tribal lease near the Aleutian Islands. I saw nearly 70 different bears, passed on several 8 footers and stalked to within rifle range of 3 legitimate 10 foot monsters. I did not kill a bear, however. All 3 big ones presented a unique problem, and blown opportunity. OK with me, as I was also there to photograph and get material for a couple magazines. I can now also return for the spring hunt if I can work out the finances. I have hunted all over Alaska now, and can say this area was the wildest, most remote and difficult terrain I have ever hunted. I sincerely wish every American could at least see this part of our country. It would make everyone feel good that there are truly some places left that are virtually untouched, and the way they were 10,000 years ago. Glad to be back, and on to a late start with whitetails Don Mulligan www.outdoorswithdon.com

Don,
Glad that you had a good trip even if you didn't get a bear.
Looking forward to seeing some articles about it.

That was probably pretty cool to be on a carrier. I'd bet you saw your share of awesome sights. I'm hoping most of my best shots find their way to the pages of some national magazines. That being said, if I knew how to post one here, I would be happy to put up the photo I used for my newspaper column on Friday. Don Mulligan www.outdoorswithdon.com

If this worked, here is a picture of me glassing a swamp near Stepovak Bay on the Alaska Peninsula. Later that day, a 10 foot bear meandered across the swamp and we gave chase. Don Mulligan www.outdoorswithdon.com
