Just thought I would show you guys my stand at my Bear Baiting area, five minutes down the road from my place. Near Latchford Ontario. The stand is 20 feet up a pine tree, 20 yds from the bait area. You can't see it very good but it's well placed for cover and effect. John

That is well hidden with good back cover.
Have you got multiple bears hitting it yet?
Can you tell any size to them?
I just had a conversation with John Trout Jr. yesterday and he showed me some pics of a 300# "red bear" that he got in Idaho with an Exocet. He is supposed to be emailing me some pics from the hunt.
He said that his was the second largest registered in that area this year.

Woody:
I have two more trips up to try and get one at my place. The cost of going there keeps going up. They arwe hitting the baits now but not during the hunting hours, so I don't know how big either. It sure would be nice to have partner to split costs with. But hard to get good hunting partners who can go up at the same time when necessary.

What we used to do was go in to bait and stay to hunt. When we left we woudl take all but just a little dab out with us. We would leave the bucket turned over as if another bear had hit the bait. When Mr. Bruin did come in he would only get a few scraps and hopefully he would think that another bear had beat him to it. Maybe, just maybe , he would come in earlier the next night. Of course it can get a little hairy carrying out a sack of bait in the dark..."Whats that noise!!..."

John do you own this property or just have permission to hunt it ?
I went with a guide out in Idaho for a spring hunt in 04. Didn't kill a bear and only saw 2 from the tree stands. Was real disappointed with the guide service (bouldercreekoutfitters) They had a film crew from Buckmasters come into camp and they killed a P&Y bear the first night in a tree stand that we were told wasn't fit to sit in. Kinda left me with a chapped arse. That was the topping of the trip. Rained almost 4 " the first 3 days we were there, guide told us a lot of things that just weren't how it was once we got there...just not a good trip.

hunter7x:
I have good property in southern Ontario for Deer and Rabbit , Pheasant, Geese, and the Wise old Turkey. Up North at my Cottage I have a small property that is surrounded by hundreds of thousands of Crown Land that is available to all. You can set up hunt areas anywhere you can find and not see anyone however. When you are done with the season hunt , you clean up and leave the forest the way you found it. Heavy Bear population as well as Moose numbers, and tons of small game , especially Grouse. I have heard lots of bad stories from people going to outfitters up North here and having bad experiences, as well no harvest. I truly feel for you and others. This is why I make all my own hunts, anywhere in Ontario. I am almost always successful, but not every single time.

Well you don't know me from Adam, but anytime you are serious about a partner for a season or so, maybe we can get together. I was going to go with another outfitter in Canada next year, but would much rather do it myself. I'm probably not going to be a lifelong bear hunter, but I would like to shoot one ! I have other big game animals I want to try as well. So file my email away and if the mood strikes you, give me a shout You'll find I'm a very serious, ethical bowhunter. Steve

Well thats all for me this year on the Bear front. One small Bear, not going to post pictures, to embarassing, But very tasty. Maybe 130 lbs. That or I would have ate my tag. Spent a lot of painfull and pleasant time this year trying, as well as costs. Had to keep something. Bears were only hitting at night and stalking during the day proved useless. The big one will be there next year. I will move my spot again. Always stick with it Guys! Hunting Rules! I would trade it for nothing else.!
Concentrating on Deer now!
