Five days to go, tick, tick, tick..... ;D Going to my place for a Black bear hunt as I've told some of you. I will be trying for two. one with Excal. Xbow, one with Black Beauty (870)Wingmaster Custom. Given the amount of Black bears around my place it shouldn't be very hard. I will report in when I get back, hopefully to brag. Anyway's, is any of you coming up Ontario for a Bear hunt? John

Father and Mother inlaw are up at my place now, leaving tommorow, say there is Bears all over the side roads when they go for drives. Oh Yaaaa!

Good luck John I'm sure you'll get at least one. Was at the cottage in Bancroft two weeks ago and anywhere near the bushes all you could smell was bear crap. My uncle owns 400 acres hope to bait there next year.

bigugly:
Bancroft is one of the areas that are offering extra tags for Bear this year. This is the year you should go. Even a four day trip with baiting will draw in a Bear or two for you.

Would absolutly love to go this year but! Already going moose hunting for a week, deer all fall, turkeys all spring, wife may shoot me if I go for bear this year as well. Our 10 year anniversery this year aswell. I should propably stay home a little before I start hunting to keep the peace if you know what I mean.

It's been a long, long time since I have bear hunted.
Do they still have it in Ontario that a non-resident (Yank) has to go through a NOTO guide/outfitter/motel/tourist trap place to be able to hunt bear up there?
How about moose? Same thing?
Is it a drawing for non-residents on moose?

Woody: As far as I can tell by looking at the regs.(which as always are very confusing) there are only certian areas that require a guide for moose. Black bear on the other hand seems so darn confusing to me I couldn't be bothered if I was a non resident. To see for yourself go to www.mnr.gov.on.ca and look under Hunting Regulations summary. Has a picture of a wild turkey on it.

I'm leaving on Friday morning for Chapleau, Ontario with my dad and brother to bear hunt. Have everything packed and ready to go. Just need these last few days to get going. This is our second hunt for bear and hopefully will pan out for us. My Magnus 2 blades are razor sharp and dying to leave a good bear blood trail!

Woody:
Or for that matter anyone here. You still need to go through an outfitter or have blood relative to hunt bear here. However I know a good BMA giude who will give descent prices and what you do is hunt the bear for say 3 or 4 days any time around the middle of Sept. Then 3 days of Upland Bird hunting, which is excellent around my area. A combined hunt, and Rabbit. Perfect week. I may organize something in the near future to this affect, and invite some fellow hunters from down south. I can do the upland birds from my place and you can do the Bear from in town with the guide.

Hey Guys: Bad Ju Ju! Just got back last night from my first Bear attempt this season. Rained from the time I left at 4:00 am on Thurs. morning until yesterday! First got there and set up my stand in my bait area, then went back to rest at my place. 3:00 pm in the afternoon I went for my first sit in the treestand, in the pouring rain with my Exomag 200 XBow. 5 hours later nothing but wet. Seen Grouse and Moose walk by though. Next morning in the rain again, I went back to put fresh bait and Donuts out, in the rain, and bang! down for the count I go. Slipped on a wet log and twisted my ankle bad. Stayed under a tree for an hour then made my way back to my truck. Spent the next three days in the cottage sulking and watching TV. Sorry for the bad report guys. Tag still in my pocket, bad ankle and wounded spirit will heal, going back again next week. Round two! I will prevail. John

Oh I will get him, now it's personal! I made my peace with the Man, and Bad "Ju Ju" is gone. With all the good stuff the Bears get for free this week I'm sure they will taste better too.

John At the beginning of last deer season I had a bum ankle and was recovering from a double hernia surgey. I had to hunt stands close to the truck that I could hobble to even though my other stands were better. I wasn't supposed to climb a tree, but I did VERY carefully. Bill loaned me a Crankeroo to cock my Exomag with. That really helped.
